Panoramics

As a matte painter the ability to create a background image refered to as a plate is a core skill.  Rich has specialized in creating panoramics for Production.   For  TV production he can recreate an environment using on set photographically which can be used by CGI lighting, texture and set extension designers.

The images here are his personal work,  all shot in difficult environments and of subjects that normally prevent normal panoramic practice of using a tripod with specialist nodal head.  All these images have been shot handheld and with the minimal amount of equipment.

The Canbourne mountain lake panoramic was shot sixty  feet up the side of a cliff two thousand feet up a mountain.  It took an hour and a half to trek and a further twenty minutes to climb into position.  Rich then tied himself off and shot his panoramic.  On the trek down the mountain fresh bear sign was spotted and it took thirty minutes to run back down.  Rich was carrying bells and pepper spray as a precaution, however local knowledge decrees that grizzly bear droppings sometimes have bells in and smell of pepper.
